Join us for a behind the scenes look at The Golden Age of Midas--an exhibition 65 years in the making. A panel discussion with key members of the Penn Museum's exhibition team will provide insights into the international collaboration and logistics required to make the exhibit a reality.
The Penn Museum's discovery of the royal tomb created an international sensation in the late 1950s. Since then, the ongoing archaeological collaboration between University of Pennsylvania and the Turkish government has resulted in rich scholarship and cultural exchanges, including the source materials for this exhibition. Continued political unrest in the region has posed challenges along the way. How are our expectations challenged when working in and with other cultures on this type of work? How has our changing understanding of "ownership" and stewardship of archaeological sites affected how we approach projects of this kind--both in terms of narratives and inter-institutional loans?
