    Mentors & Margaritas at Philosophical Hall, the American Philosophical Society

    Date: Wednesday May 8, 2019

    Time: 6:00 - 8:00 pm

    Calling all Emerging Museum Professionals! If you're less than a decade into your museum career, come mix and make connections with mentors representing a variety of museums and jobs during this special networking event. Bring a resume to workshop with professionals, as well as some ideas to let the Museum Council know what types of programs would best serve EMPs in the Greater Philadelphia Region.

    Light refreshments will be provided. Register for your spot now!


    Some of the mentors joining us this evening:

    • Maxine Gaiber: After two decades in museum education with some side trips in marketing and fundraising, Maxine Gaiber has served as an executive director at three area cultural institutions. Hear about how and why she took this road and how you can prepare yourself to go on a similar journey.
    • Rose Chiango: Rose Chiango is the Associate Archivist and Records Manager at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and is interested in all things museum, especially the change and growth of the archives profession in our connected, digital world.
    • Allison Krisch: Allison is a museum educator skilled in creating dynamic programs for diverse, intergenerational audiences. She has 13 years of experience in program design, curriculum development, staff management, and grant writing.
    • Pat Wittwer: Pat Wittwer stumbled into museum 17 years ago and after working at a science museum, historic site, aquarium, children's museum, and a corporate museum, he has yet to find his way out.
    • Alice Emerson: Alice Emerson currently serves as an Assistant Director of University Advancement Communication at Villanova. She loves taking on new challenges, and has dedicated her career to helping cultural organizations advance their missions through strategic communications and marketing.
    • Cat Aboudara: Cat Aboudara thinks of herself as a nerd herder and has produced provocative educational series at the Laurel Hill Cemetery, Franklin Institute, Smithsonian Associates, California Academy of Sciences and Nerd Nite that successfully foster life-long learning in adults through curiosity and play.

    Behind-the-Scenes at the Please Touch Museum's America to Zanzibar: Muslim Cultures Near and Far Exhibit

    Date: Thursday May 16, 2019

    Time 6:00-8:00 pm

    Join us at the Please Touch Museum to learn about America to Zanzibar: Muslim Cultures Near and Far and network with Museum Council members. Hear from museum staff members and community advisory committee leader, Salima Suswell, about the development of an exhibit that considers the role of Muslim cultures on local and global scales and what this exhibit means for Philadelphia in our current moment.

    Mythical Meet-up at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University

    Date: Thursday May 30, 2019

    Time: 6:00-8:00 pm

    Join the Museum Council of Greater Philadelphia at the Academy of Natural Sciences for your last chance to see Mythic Creatures: Dragons, Unicorns, and Mermaids. Mingle with fellow Museum Council members, meet staff from the Academy’s Exhibits and Public Experience teams, and get an up-close look at this special exhibit.

    This year, we celebrate 80 years of service to the arts and culture field in the Philadelphia region. Join us as we celebrate this milestone! 

    The featured Keynote will be Margaret MiddletonMargaret is an independent exhibit designer in Providence, Rhode Island, working at the intersection of design and social justice. Middleton holds a degree in industrial design from the Rhode Island School of Design and writes about inclusive museum practice.
